Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan is a native of in and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is Jazmine's mom, and has been a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years old, her father landed a position as a curator at The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the historical landmark. The 2005 graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan began singing in the school's chorus as a contralto and then she joined the adult chorus a couple of years later. Sullivan wasn't exposed to secular music at first. "I began singing in solos at church and a person wanted me to sign up to gospel records at the age of 11. But I wasn't prepared for it," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to students in big cities I was invited to perform 'Accept what God Allows' on It's Showtime at the Apollo and the audience responded really well". The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at 13. Sullivan, at age 15 was signed for the first time to Jive Records. She was signed to Jive Records around the age of fifteen. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album, but the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped on the labels. She had a good working partnership to Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks which included "Backstabbers" the track that was produced by Timbaland.
